What the CSS syllabus contains
The CSS written examination carries 1200 marks. Every candidate studies six compulsory papers worth 600 marks and selects another 600 marks from the FPSC optional-subject groups. MPT is a separate screening stage before the written examination.
Compulsory papersEssay, English Precis & Composition, General Science & Ability, Current Affairs, Pakistan Affairs and Islamic Studies or Comparative Study of Major Religions.

- Copy every syllabus topic into a subject checklist.
- Attach five to ten years of relevant past-paper questions to each topic.
- Choose one base source and one current source instead of collecting unlimited books.

How many marks are in the CSS written exam?
The written examination has 1200 marks: 600 compulsory and 600 optional.

Can I select any combination of optional subjects?
No. Your selection must total 600 marks and follow the limits of the seven FPSC optional-subject groups.
